challenges while maintaining and enhancing shareholder value. This
award will be presented to a Canadian corporation with a proven
record of environmental stewardship that has materially contributed
to economic competitiveness through a commitment to environmental
excellence that is integrated with a corporate-wide approach to
sustainability.

RBC Royal Bank of Canada is Canada's largest
bank with approximately 80,000 full- and part-time employees who
serve more than 18 million personal, business, public sector and
institutional clients through offices in Canada, the U.S. and 53
other countries. Its commitment to environmental sustainability
began in 1991 with the launch of its first Policy on the
Environment. Over the years, its policies, procedures and programs
have broadened their focus to fulfill its four environmental
objectives: reduce its operational footprint, lend responsibly,
develop environmentally friendly products and engage and reinvest
in the communities it serves.

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic
and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is guided by a
20-member board of directors established by the Government of
Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver,
the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Canadian Olympic
Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and local First
Nations. VANOC's mission was to build a stronger Canada whose
spirit is raised by its passion for sport, culture and
sustainability. VANOC was the first Olympic Organizing Committee to
build a sustainability performance platform that took an integrated
approach to the social, economic and environmental dimensions of
the Games.

ecoFREIGHT TRANSPORATION AWARD | top
Freight transportation, be it by air, water, rail or road, is a
sector contributing largely to air pollution and greenhouse gas
emissions. Whether by testing and measuring new and underused
freight transportation technologies, purchasing and installing
proven emission-reducing technologies, or reducing fuel use, air
pollution and GHG emissions from idling engines in large urban
centres, many companies are tackling this challenge. This award
will be presented to a shipper, carrier or other transportation
service provider which has included sustainable transportation
choices in their environmental strategies, and demonstrated a
leadership role in addressing the impact of freight transportation
on the environment.

Port Metro Vancouver is committed to conducting
operations in a responsible and sustainable manner that safeguards
and promotes continual protection of the environment, through a
number of initiatives. Port Metro Vancouver working towards
effectively reducing greenhouse gas and other emissions, resulting
from transportation activities in Canada, successfully
incorporating sustainable transportation choices in their
environmental strategies, and actively being environmentally
conscious/responsible in the production processes through its Air
Action Program, Canada Place Shore Power, Differentiated Harbour
Dues Program, Environmental Requirements through its Truck
Licensing Program, and the Land Side Air Emissions Inventory.

THE AWARD FOR TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AND
APPLICATION | top
Increasingly today, new and innovative technologies are being
developed and applied to solve pressing environmental problems.
This award will be presented to a company or group of companies
that have demonstrated outstanding technical ingenuity in the
development and/or application of an innovative technology with a
significant environmental application. This technology will have a
proven track record through commercialization.

for Smart Grid applications including advanced metering, demand
response and distribution automation. TUNet® (Tantalus Utility

electric, water & gas utilities to automate processes, reduce

instantly detect outages, remotely maintain equipment, perform
sophisticated analytics, and implement conservation programs that
can include load control and in-home customer signalling. TUNet is
award-winning technology deployed at utilities across North America
determined to manage resources intelligently and meet ambitious
conservation goals.

THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN EMERGING TECHNOLOGY

The most pressing and seemingly unfixable environmental
challenges always give rise to the most innovative technological
solutions. This award will be presented to a Canadian company that
has made valuable progress in the advancement of current
environmental technologies or is on the cutting edge in pursuing
new and emerging technologies. It will recognize the technology
with the most promising potential to provide the greatest financial
return from broad commercial application.

The Dow PowerHouse Solar Shingle is the first
Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) product to be marketed. It
is a revolutionary flexible photovoltaic solar cell packaged in the
form of a roofing shingle that can be easily integrated with
standard asphalt shingle materials - at an affordable cost. This
game-changing product is expected to be available in limited
quantities in mid-2010 with shingle systems more widely available
in 2011, putting the power of solar energy directly in the hands of
homeowners. Ranked number 13 on TIME magazine's list of "The 50
Best Inventions of 2009."

THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN URBAN
SUSTAINABILITY | top
As the hub of industry and innovation, cities have become the
economic engines of society. Liveable, vibrant and sustainable
cities are rising to the top of the competitive ladder through
their ability to attract talent and investment. A key 'building
block' for such world class cities is the planning and practice of
urban sustainability in City form, building design and economic
systems. This award will be presented to a local government,
private sector company or consortium which has developed and
applied outstanding urban sustainability principles.

Millennium Water, the Southeast False Creek
Winter Olympic Village represents the combined efforts of a huge
number of people, including the design team, the City of Vancouver,
and myriad consultants and industrial professionals. As the chosen
development firm, Millennium SEFC Properties Ltd. worked closely
with the City of Vancouver SEFC Office to compile the team
responsible for the development of Millennium Water at SEFC. Over
30 firms of designers, engineers and consultants formed the
Millennium Water project team responsible for the planning, design
and execution of Millennium Water at SEFC. Integration and
cooperation was key to these processes and the success of this
large, ambitious process.

Financial markets are increasingly integrating environment
factors into investment and banking decisions, and are placing more
capital into sustainable technologies and ventures. This award will
be presented to a North American or global financial institution
who has developed new portfolios, debt or investment structures
& instruments, analytical tools and/or targeted funds for
Canadian environmental technology, infrastructure, retail or
industrial, or clean energy markets.

Sustainable Development Technology Canada
(SDTC) is an arm's-length foundation created by the
Government of Canada which has received $1.05 billion as part of
the Government's commitment to create a healthy environment and a
high quality of life for all Canadians. SDTC operates two funds
aimed at the development and demonstration of innovative
technological solutions. The $550 million SD Tech
FundTM supports projects that address climate change,
air quality, clean water, and clean soil. The $500 million
NextGen Biofuels FundTM supports the establishment of
first-of-kind large demonstration-scale facilities for the
production of next-generation renewable fuels.
